This is a solid, well- written story told from several points of view. The characters and setting are both very engaging, and in parts this thriller reads much like a work of really good fiction, meaning the story- as told through the eyes of these different characters, is strong even without the mystery aspect. I find it very surprising that this is a first book, it reads like the product of a seasoned author. I really hope to see the next book soon.Product details

Magenta Rave Janna Zonder 9780615834283 Books Reviews
I have read very few books that are fun, fast-paced AND thought-provoking and Magenta Rave is clearly one of them. Ms. Zonder’s characters are well-developed and likable—I rooted for all of them (the females anyway)! Magenta Rave offers a great balance between humor and pathos and kept me guessing right up until the end. Not to be trite, but it truly was a page turner! In addition to being a really enjoyable read, Ms. Zonder raises important societal questions, especially about how women are served—or not served—by our judicial system—questions that can’t be answered soon enough. Beneath the humor and mystery, this is an important novel and I can’t wait for her next one!
An excellent first novel from Janna Zonder, Magenta Rave drew me in from the start in the way that a good mystery novel should. I couldn't help but put several time-sensitive periodicals aside until I finished it. For a week thereafter, I woke up every morning thinking about key characters. That says something I always know I've read a good novel when the characters stay with me afterward. I hope Ms. Zonder plans to make Magenta Rave the first in a series -- I'd love to see these characters again. But she is such a talented writer, my bottom-line hope is that her first novel won't be her last!
that you not begin this book if you have anything important to do, as there is no getting off the ride once the first page is turned! Excellently crafted, deftly navigated, and sublimely projected, this tale enlightens a dark world that is all too commonly swept under a collective blanket of shame. It is through such works as this that we find the courage to face our own internal victims and avengers. One hopes that it was as cathartic to write as it was to read. Bravo!
The subject matter of this book is some what sensitive, abuse of women and children, however, the author developed the story in such a way, that I was compelled to read it. The characters were well thought out and real and the book had a good flow. For a first time author, I think Janna Zonder did a wonderful job. I am looking forward to her next book.
This is a difficult read at times simply because the subject matter is so heart-wrenching. Zonder writes about sexual assaults in a way that eloquently depicts a few of the many ways it can affect victims' lives and the lives of all those who come into contact with those victims. She does this in a way that is open and honest. Some people may prefer to keep their eyes closed about this topic. For those people, read a fairy tale. For people who want an honest view along with a dose of suspense, this is absolutely the book for you! The characters are vivid and carefully constructed and become living, breathing entities as the author builds layer upon layer of personality into each one. The plot is clever, the characters believable, the writing is clean and crisp with descriptions that tempt the senses.
This was a page-turner and a fun read. Nothing heavy or thought-provoking, but a good way to enjoy reading before bed. Some of the prose is really beautiful, too, which makes me think the author could write a piece of "real" literature.
Admittedly, I approached this book, recommended by a friend, as a time killer. An easy read to fill in the blank spots over a couple of days. Twenty minutes here, a half hour there. I don't have to marry the book, just date it for a little while. Typically a story takes some time before it engages me. Perhaps I am a snob like that, but I would never presume that I am going to like a character, or even find a story interesting...until I do. I believe that a writer should dig deep to bring a story to life. In the best of fiction, the tempting question should be, are any elements of this story based on truth?
From the start, Magenta Rave was compelling. I had to keep reminding myself that this was a first novel, because the characters were so articulately developed, which of course makes the story all the more engaging.
Before long, I wasn't filling in the blank spots of life to find time to read, I was filling in the blank spots when I wasn't reading to find time for life.
With just the right blend of intrigue and surprise, Magenta Rave kept me until the final note.
I believe, Ms. Zonder quickly found her stride and with her first book, hit the ground running. It leaves me anticipating what's next.
This is a solid, well- written story told from several points of view. The characters and setting are both very engaging, and in parts this thriller reads much like a work of really good fiction, meaning the story- as told through the eyes of these different characters, is strong even without the mystery aspect.
